| Sony DADC launches Warranty Registration Tool |
| |
London, UK; January 16, 2006 - Sony DADC's powerful n-CD technology has scored another first. This
week sees the first use of an n-CD product as a warranty registration tool with consumer
electronics products. From mid December certain Bravia TV models will include an option for
consumers to register their warranty simply by playing a CD-ROM which is included in the product
packaging.
The CD-ROM supplied with Bravia TV's is in fact an n-CD manufactured by Sony DADC. Each disc
contains pre-encoded data which represents the make, model and serial number of an individual
Bravia TV. When the consumer plays the disc in an online PC, their TV's model and serial number
will automatically be displayed on screen. The consumer simply needs to enter their personal
contact details in order to complete online registration.
"We are very excited about this new application area for n-CD," Gerry Kelly, Project Manager
at Sony DADC, explained. "Each n-CD disc contains a unique identifier, and can be mapped in the
manufacturing process to the serial number of an individual appliance making it far easier for
consumers who choose to register online" The innovation means that consumers need no longer worry
about locating a lengthy serial number, or mailing a reply card in order to register a product's
warranty.
"Using n-CD to increase online product registrations is an important development for
appliance manufacturers," continued Kelly. "It can aid in building brand loyalty and grow revenues
through extended warranty sales. In addition, the disc can be used to present promotional material
for the appliance manufacturer, and to offer online incentives to consumers.
