SecuROM version 7 released with choice of three different encryption levels.
Salzburg, Austria, May 9, 2005 - Offering high-level security against piracy and illegal
copying, Sony DADC's copy control solution SecuROM version 7 lets publishers choose between three
encryption levels, catering towards a convenience-oriented market. The new version will be
presented to the public at the E3 in Los Angeles.
New SecuROM version with three different encryption levels
As the leading copy-protection system, SecuROM Version 7 lets publishers select one out of
three encryption-levels: Automatic, Customized and Advanced. Each level is tailored towards
individual demands. Both Automatic and Customized were designed for a convenience-oriented audience
and can be implemented without the involvement of developers. Whereas customised needs one or two
days for determining the individual settings, it only takes one click of the mouse and SecuROM
Automatic is installed. "It was important for us to offer an automatic version that can be
implemented effortlessly without requiring knowledge of the technology itself," says Stefan
Podhajski, SecuROM Product Manager. "Only after thorough market-tests revealed a one-month
crack-free window on a recent title, we decided that SecuROM Automatic was ready for mass-market."
Version 7 Advanced targets more technology-savvy publishers. The more time-consuming implementation
procedures need the involvement of developers and guarantee the highest-level of protection SecuROM
has to offer. For publishers of titles with a limited time-span, such as demo versions, SecuROM
also has a try & die option installed. The function is based on a sophisticated digital rights
management tool.
