Sony DADC releases new key2audioXS Version

Version 3 allows the definition of private back-up copies for consumers without rendering copy protection capabilities. Labels are to benefit from extended playtime and support of portable devices.

Salzburg, Austria, January 2, 2005 - Sony DADC releases the new key2audioXS version. The third edition of the CD-Audio copy control solution is equipped with protection capabilities and additional features, which take legal implications and the consumers desire for more value into consideration.
key2audioXS Version 3 now has the capacity to legitimise and control a limited amount of private back-up copies. The new version lets labels individually define the burn count taking the edge out of copy control discussion. Country-specific laws on private back-up copies do not burden labels by having them give up their protection, as key2audioXSTM now grants the opportunity to allow consumers to obtain legitimate private back-ups. These copies are then also fully key2audioXSTM protected and offer the same leading efficiency and compatibility as the original disc. "key2audioXSTM simply puts more than a stop to casual consumer copying," says Product Manager Sandra Wieflingseder. "key2audioXS is now the label's way of respecting the consumers' right to private back-up copies and the right to listening to their music on the device of choice, no matter if it's their audio CD player, PC or portable player."
Made possible through a sophisticated digital rights management solution key2audioXS also supports the export of files to portable devices. "Today key2audioXSTM protected discs also have an extended playtime with almost 76 minutes, leaving more space for additional audio tracks," describes Sandra Wieflingseder. "Aside from combining with n-CD our improved digital rights management system also allows for new promotional possibilities without rendering the right for protection. For example, consumers can send audio files via email. Friends enjoy and share their favourites which facilitates promotion activities. Labels simply need to define the usability time!"
Independent market researcher report key2audioXS Version 3 as the Audio-CD copy control solution with best compatibility. This copy control solution not only works on every currently available audio device but also guarantees an unlimited high-quality listening experience.
