ARccOS - The first digital and dynamic DVD-Video copy control lets copying software fail

Industry's high demand for Sony DADC's ARccOS underlines the sophisticated and effective protection abilities

Salzburg, Austria, June 28, 2004 - Sony DADC announced the successful protection of 250 thousand DVD-Videos. Since the launch of Sony DADC's first dynamic and disc-based copy control solution for DVD-Video, called ARccOS, this effective protection has been applied to over 30 titles.
ARccOS is the first and only available digital and dynamic DVD-Video copy control which effectively prevents unauthorized DVD copying on PC. "Our customers are pleased to finally have found a copy control solution for DVD-Video that protects their content successfully. Our satisfied clientele and the numerous orders being placed prove the great potential of ARccOS in preventing copying on PC," says Sony DADC DVD Sales Director Fritz Deininger. "Sony DADC has succeeded in marking a milestone in DVD-Video protection by engineering a solution that meets the changing demands of the video industry!" The industry's high demand for an effective DVD-Video copy control reflect the current market situation. Seizure statistics point out the significance of the threat posed to content owners. Meanwhile copying of DVD-Video hast almost five-folded in Europe compared to the previous year. The numbers are continuously rising. Copyright infringement constitutes a major problem: Nowadays videos rank second for content burned on CD-R without permission, and over 70% of DVD-R used contain movies and music videos. Copying software is inexpensive and widely available, making unauthorised digital copying easy and accessible to almost everyone. Result: Content owners suffer enormous financial harm and have to rely on protection solutions, such as ARccOS TM for securing their intellectual property.
Sony DADC has launched ARccOS - a disc-based copy control technology with a dynamic copy protection system that is compatible with available DVD drives and players and doesn't interfere with the DVDs' performance. Every single ARccOS guarded title can be equipped with a different code making a generic crack impossible. The protection is applied to the content after authoring, leaving the input material unchanged - a method which is successfully being used in the computer games copy protection market. The ARccOS technology prevents 1:1 duplication, ripping, recompression and unauthorized mass replication of DVD-Video, ensuring that the content is safe. A dynamic digital copy control solution can currently only be exclusively obtained at any Sony DADC location world-wide. Comparable protection packages for DVD-Video aren't available on the market.
Aside from leading copy protection, Sony DADC develops comprehensive solutions and services.
