Protected discs now with more convenience for users and content publishers
New York, USA / Salzburg, Austria, May 6, 2004 - Sony DADC's audio copy control solution
key2audioXS now supports Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) for secure PCPlayback. The
new agreement with Microsoft on the use of their Windows Media Data Session Toolkit marks another
important milestone in the successful launch of key2audioXS.
As a result of the contract, Sony DADC will be able to offer music publishers the creation of
"second sessions" using Windows Media files for PC-playback on key2audioXS protected discs. Sony
DADC builds this "second session" by using the Microsoft Windows Media Data Session Toolkit, which
enables secure high-quality Windows Media content to be played back on the PC. Also available is a
customised player for PC spin and play which is directly located on the key2audioXSTM protected
disc. Therefore, content publishers may provide their consumers the DRM solutions which suits their
customers best. key2audioXS with Windows Media DRM platform, disc mastering and replication are
available at authorised CD manufacturing plants for worldwide releases.
"We are happy to offer consumers a new level of convenience for their PC-playback," says
Sandra Wieflingseder, key2audioXS Product Manager. "key2audioXS features market-leading
compatibility with consumer electronic playback devices as well as effective prevention of home
CD-R burning, helping record labels to safeguard their creative work against unauthorised copying."
key2audioXS forms a system for the secure delivery of exclusive content, such as a Secure Web Link,
bonus tracks, lyrics and artist information. At the same time customers can rely on protection of
their original in the well-known Sony DADC quality.
