| Developed by Sony, Philips and Microsoft, the CD Extra format allows Audio
CDs to include a multimedia element that can be used for promotional purposes. The Audio CD is
compatible with all music players, while the multimedia parts can only be accessed via computer.
CD Extra can be used by record companies to include additional artist information, lyrics,
videos and so on, or by other companies promoting their products and services. For example, a
well-known furnishing firm created a music compilation for its clients and also included a product
catalogue on the CD. This allowed clients to enjoy the tracks and also browse through the range and
place orders via a link to the company's Web site. |
